Leah C. Healey, Esq. (Winter, 1999) travelled to Dallas, Texas, to speak at the Brownfields '99 Conference sponsored by USEPA which took place on December 7th. Ms. Healey spoke about New Jersey's program which provides reimbursement of cleanup costs to developers of brownfield sites. MF&H negotiated and obtained the first agreement with the state under this new program.
1998:
Christopher H. Falcon (Summer, 1998) has been named to the Board of Trustees of Morris 2000. Mr. Falcon has also become a member of the Industrial Environmental Quality Committee of the New Jersey Water Environment Association.
Leah C. Healey, Esq. (Summer, 1998) has been appointed to the Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force by Governor Christine Todd Whitman. The Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force, created under the Brownfield and Contaminated Site Remediation Act (BCSRA) signed into law on January 6, 1998, is responsible for facilitating the redevelopment of abandoned or idle commercial and industrial sites in the state that are thought or known to be environmentally impaired. It is comprised of eleven members, five of whom are from state agencies and six who are public members.
Diane Alexander (Summer, 1998), on behalf of the Association of Environmental Authorities, filed an appeal challenging New Jersey's Surface Water Quality Standards on the basis that some of the parameters and conditions are unlawful, arbitrary, capricious and/or without technical justification and, as a result, the standards call for inappropriate spending of public funds.
Joseph J. Maraziti, Jr. (Spring, 1998) was sworn-in by New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman as Chairman of the State Planning Commission on April 16, 1998.

Joseph J. Maraziti, Jr. (Autumn, 1997) was a participant in a conference studying the Transfer of Development Rights for a Balanced Development which was sponsored by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the Regional Plan Association.
Joseph J. Maraziti, Jr. (Autumn, 1997) published an article earlier this year in The Morris Lawyer about the opportunities available in the redevelopment of Brownfields. Copies of the article are available.
Christopher H. Falcon (Autumn, 1997) is presenting two seminars on zoning and planning issues: the first on November 24, 1997 sponsored by the Morris County Bar Committee and the second on February 24, 1998 sponsored by the National Business Institute.
Diane Alexander (Autumn, 1997) spoke on the topic of How Will Home Rule and Watershed Planning Work Together at a legal seminar sponsored by the Association of Environmental Authorities.
Diane Alexander (Autumn, 1997) also delivered a presentation, entitled New Pretreatment Regulations and Their Impact on Industry and Their Pretreatment Plant Operators, at a meeting of the Central Section of the Water Environment Federation.
Joseph J. Maraziti, Jr. (Summer, 1997) was also asked to serve as Master of Ceremonies at New Jersey Future's Tenth Anniversary Celebration held on June 22. At the celebration, former Governor James J. Florio presented awards honoring the contributions of Robert D. Graff, Judith H. Stanley and Thomas J. Stanton, Jr., for their work supporting New Jersey's State Plan.
Brent T. Carney (Summer, 1997) joined the firm as an associate in August 1997. Mr. Carney is a graduate of New England School of Law and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in December 1997.
