Maraziti Falcon is proud to serve as local counsel to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) – a national, nonprofit, environmental advocacy group with 14,000 members in New Jersey – in the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ proceedings on PSE&G’s proposed continuation of the Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP II), which involves the replacement of approximately 870 miles of cast iron main. EDF has been heavily engaged throughout the U.S. in reducing methane emissions stemming from distribution system pipeline leaks. In collaboration with PSE&G, EDF has gathered leak flow rate data for sections of the utility’s infrastructure targeted for replacement through a mobile leak survey using Google Street View cars that were specially outfitted with methane sensors. Methane accounted for about 10% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2015, according to the U.S. EPA. Replacement of vulnerable energy infrastructure also promotes resilience to climate change and extreme weather.
