On July 7, 2016, the Newark City Council adopted one of the nation’s first Environmental Justice ordinances, which is designed to address the cumulative, adverse, environmental impacts of locally undesirable land uses on the community. Maraziti Falcon, LLP co-drafted the Ordinance, in consultation with the City Department of Economic and Housing Development and a community organization. Newark has been identified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as an environmentally overburdened community.
